It would be hard not to notice, that just about everybody in the online universe has way more friends than me. I usually have two or three. Rarely four. Unless I pester my family - they have to be my friend whether they like me or not. The thing is, I'm really uncomfortable asking people I know to be my friend because I'm reasonably certain I will fail to keep up my end of the friendship. There are so many ways to go wrong. Maybe I'll start a community for friendless people. I'll bet it's a larger market segment than most people realize.

You are right. I'm sure that post wreaked of ludditeness (ludditity?). Sort of like my mom making cracks about the temperature when I used the word "cool" way(waaaay)back when. And I swore I would never be as out of it as she was.
Online friends are kinda weird. I joined Facebook and for a few days had no friends at all, except my husband (who didn't want to be my friend at first). He has mixed feelings about the benefits of Facebook. Then lots of his friends became my friends, and I found some library staff friends, and then two actual friends from my real life. My brother is still not my friend, however. Not really gettng much out of these friendships.
Twitter is much better, in my opinion.
